HomeShake Receives Singapore's Official Interior Design Accreditation for Knowledge & Fair Practices
20 July 2022, Singapore – We are pleased to announce that HomeShake's CEO & Lead Designer Maxence Mely has received Singapore's National Interior Design Accreditation (Class 3). This is awarded by the new Singapore Interior Design Accreditation Council (SIDAC -ID3- Reg. No. 220029).
For our company, this certification recognises our continuous efforts to provide quality and trustworthy services to our corporate and consumer clients.
A National Level Industry Accreditation Framework
Singapore's national level industry accreditation framework defines the level of proficiency of practicing Interior Designers.
- It enables Interior Designers to be constantly kept abreast on the latest industry knowledge and skill.
- It helps professionals to upskill and build bench strength, to face an ever-changing interior design landscape.
- It levels up the industry profession and image, hence attracting and retaining talents.
- It allows end users of interior design services to better assess and qualify IDs before engaging their services
- It offers opportunities for IDs to extend their services to overseas markets through cross-recognition by partner accredited countries and regions.
This certification is a step forward towards a better and more professional Renovation Industry. In 2020, there was a total of 745 complaints lodged with consumer watchdog CASE against design firms and renovation contractors. Such "horror stories" can be avoided by working with Accredited Professionals and following Singapore's Competition & Consumer Commission's (CCCS) guidelines for our trade.
CCCS has published a Guide on Fair Trading Practices for the Renovation Industry, which aims to improve business practices in the industry and help the suppliers of interior design or renovation services steer clear of unfair practices.

About the Singapore Interior Design Accreditation
The 2018 Industry Transformation Roadmap Development for the Interior Design Industry in Singapore, commissioned by DesignSingapore Council had identified the need for industry regulation to uphold the level of the Interior Design professionalism, helping to validate the Industry at the global stage.
The Singapore Interior Design Accreditation Scheme was subsequently developed to elevate the Singapore Interior Design profession by defining core skill sets and competencies to bridge the gap between education and practice.
Together with the Interior Designers code and Interior Design best practices, the scheme will help ensure high standards across Singapore. Coupled with Continuing Professional Development (CPD), practitioners will have the opportunity to upskill, build capacity and eventually export their practice overseas.

About the Singapore Interior Design Accreditation Council (SIDAC)
Initiated by the Society of Interior Designers, Singapore (SIDS), the announcement of this national initiative was first made on 7th December 2020 by Singapore's Minister in Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister for Finance & National Development, Ms Indranee Rajah, during the 4th Singapore Interior Design Awards Presentation Dinner 2020 held at the Marina Bay Sands, Singapore.
SIDS subsequently formed the Singapore Interior Design Advisory Accreditation Council (SIDAAC) which comprises of four industry sectors, namely Government Agencies, Allied Trade Associations & Chambers, Interior Industry Practitioners and lastly Institutions of Higher Learning.
This expert panel provided guidance and advice on the development of the accreditation scheme. Through a series of focus group meetings and roundtable discussions, the framework of the Singapore Interior Design Accreditation Scheme (SIDAS) was finally formulated.
The scheme was launched on 19th November 2021 by Singapore's Minister-of-State (MOS) for Trade & Industry, Ms Low Yen Ling at the National Design Centre (NDC). MOS Low also inaugurated the formation of the Singapore Interior Design Accreditation Council (SIDAC), which oversees the development of SIDAS. The training arm of SIDS, the Singapore Interior Design (SID) Academy will administer the SIDAS.

About Singapore's Competition & Consumer Commission (CCCS)
The Competition Commission of Singapore (“CCS”) was established on 1 January 2005 to administer and enforce the Competition Act (the “Act”) 2004. On 1 April 2018, CCS was renamed the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (“CCCS”) and took on an additional function of administering the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act 2003.
In relation to the Act, besides investigating and enforcing against practices that have an adverse effect on competition in Singapore, CCCS also represents Singapore in respect of competition matters in the international arena. In addition, CCCS has a statutory duty to advise the government or other public authority on national needs and policies in respect of competition matters generally.

Do you have in-house carpentry?
We have our in-house carpentry workshop to manufacture cabinets as well as bespoke furniture, with a great experience in solid wood and wood veneer cabinetry.
We also partner with the brand Oppolia to offer quality cabinets in melamine, PVC, PET, as well as premium finishes like lacquer.
Who will be in charge of my project?
We don't just have interior designers, we have a team of professionals including project managers. We work with experts who can advise at every stage of the project. This helps to ensure we offer the best solutions and follow industry-level SOPs.
Do you use subcontractors for general works?
Our team includes electricians, plumbers, tilers, painters, general workers. They work hand-in-hand with the designer and carpenters. We also work with subcontractors who specialize in false ceiling and air-conditioning.
